In 1911, a steel bridge was built over the St. John River to connect St. Leonard, New Brunswick, and Van Buren, Maine. Before construction of that bridge, a cable ferry shuttled between the two towns. In this picture, we see a cable ferry carrying a horse and buggy from one side of the St. John River to the other.
