Fredericton Teachers College was founded in 1848 at the corner of York and Queen streets. Teachers colleges were funded by the provincial government and trained male and female instructors in New Brunswick. The Fredericton institution was closed in 1965, and teacher training has since been provided by the Université de Moncton, the University of New Brunswick, Saint Thomas University and most recently, Atlantic Baptist University..
