Westmorland County: first settled by Acadians and later by New Englanders: PO 1842-1970: in 1866 Baie Verte was a farming, fishing and lumbering community with approximately 90 resident families including 9 Chappell, 19 Gooden and 7 Turner families: in 1871 the community had a population of about 200: in 1898 Baie Verte was a sub-port of entry, a station on the New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway and a settlement with 1 post office, 4 stores, 1 hotel, 1 sawmill, 2 churches and a population of 400: in 1904 Baie Verte had a population of 900.
