Located on S side of the Southwest Miramichi River, 6.29 km NE of Blackville: Blackville Parish, Northumberland County: first called Becketville: renamed in 1880 for several Coughlan families who settled in the area: PO Coughlan 1880-1958: in 1898 Coughlan was a farming and lumbering settlement with 1 post office and a population of 100.
