Carleton County
: created from
Kent Parish
and
Brighton Parish
in 1863 and probably named for George Hamilton Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen (1784-1860) and prime minister of England from 1852-1855: He was the father of Arthur Charles Hamilton Gordon (1829-1912), who was first Baron Stanmore (1829-1912) and lieutenant-governor of New Brunswick from 1861-1866.
