: named in 1854 to honour Robert Doak (1785-1857), a native of Ochiltree, Scotland, who settled here about 1825 and operated a carding mill, grist mill, and a sawmill: PO from 1854: in 1866 Doaktown was a farming and lumbering settlement with about 80 families including 6 Bamford and 6 Mitchell families: in 1871 Doaktown had a population of 250: in 1898 Doaktown was a station on the Canada Eastern Railway and a community with 1 post office, 3 stores, 2 hotels, 1 sawmill, 2 sash and door factories, 2 churches and a population of 300: included Russelltown
, located 1.5 km S of Storeytown
: also included South Road Settlement
which was located 6.5 km NE of Doaktown: Doaktown was incorporated as a village in 1966.
