Located 5.49 km ENE of Elgin: Elgin Parish, Albert County: named for George Gowland, who settled here in 1828: PO 1865-1942: in 1866 it was a farming settlement with about 28 resident families, including the family of William Gowland: in 1871 Gowland Mountain had a population of 100: in 1898 Gowland Mountain had 1 post office, 1 sawmill, 1 church and a population of 185: also known as Golden's Mountain
