Located on the Caraquet Harbour, Chaleur Bay, 2.49 km E of Middle Caraquet: Caraquet Parish, Gloucester County: PO Lower Caraquet 1877-1955: in 1871 it had a population of 1500: in 1898 Lower Caraquet was a fishing and farming community with 1 post office, 2 stores, 4 lobster factories, 1 church and a population of 1,500: included the community of Middle Caraquet: PO Middle Caraquet 1893-1970: included the settlement of Sewellville: PO Sewellville 1913-1952 with Bernard Sewell as first postmaster: also included the community of Morais: Jacques Morais settled here in the 1700's: PO Morais 1925-1970 with M. Morais as the first postmaster: PO Bas-Caraquet from 1955: called the village of Lower Caraquet from 1966-1971 and Bas-Caraquet from 1971.
