Description
Located on the Eel River, 7.53 km S of Kirkland, on the road to Monument: North Lake Parish, York County: first called Gesner Settlement after Abraham Gesner (1797-1864), first provincial geologist and inventor of kerosene: renamed in 1902 for Lt. Colonel A.M. Maxwell of the 36th Regiment, who led New Brunswick soldiers in the boundary dispute between New Brunswick and the United States: PO Maxwell 1902-1937.
