Located 2.25 km NW of Harcourt: Harcourt Parish, Kent County: named for John Mortimer, who worked with Miller's Tanning Extract Company from 1880-1910: formerly called Beckwith Corner for a surveyor: Acadians called it Buckwheat Corner: in 1898 Mortimer was a farming and forestry settlement with 1 post office, 1 sawmill, 1 hotel and a population of 60.
