Located on E side of the St. John River, 3.93 km NNW of Hawkshaw: Southampton Parish, York County: in 1866 "Nackawick" was a farming and lumbering settlement with approximately 46 families, including 5 Munro and 4 Thornton families: in 1871 it had a population of about 150: in 1898 Nackawic had 1 store, 1 hotel, 1 church and a population of about 100: included the community of Lower Southampton: PO Lower Southampton 1866-1970: PO Nackawic from 1970: Nackawic was incorporated as a village in 1970 and became a town in 1976.
