Located on the Gulf of St. Lawrence, 7.8 km ESE of Escuminac: Carleton Parish, Kent County: William Francis Ganong identified the Mi'kmaq name for Escuminac as Eskumunaak which means "look-out spot": during the 17 Century the French named the area Ecoumenac ou Scoumina PO 1882-1951: in 1904 Point Escuminac was a community with 1 post office, 2 lobster factories, 2 freezers, 1 lighthouse and 1 weather bureau station.
