Located on E side of the St. John River, 2.58 km W of McGowans Corner, on the road to Maugerville: Sheffield Parish, Sunbury County: PO 1845-1942: in 1866 Sheffield was a farming settlement with approximately 55 resident families, including 8 Barker and 8 Burpee families: in 1871 it had a population of 150: in 1898 Sheffield had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 hotel and a population of about 100.
