Located 6.43 km SE of Botsford Portage, on the road to Port Elgin: Botsford Parish, Westmorland County: William Francis Ganong identified the Mi'kmaq name for Shemogue as Simooaquick: the Acadians spelled the name Chimougoüi: settled about 1803: PO Great Shemogue 1852-1930: in 1866 Great Shemogue was a fishing and lumbering community with approximately 30 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of 300: in 1898 Great Shemogue had 1 post office, 3 stores, 1 hotel, 1 carriage factory, 1 flour mill, 3 sawmills, 2 churches and a population of 500: PO Shemogue 1930-1969: also included the community of Bristol: in 1866 Bristol was a farming settlement with approximately 16 resident families: Shemogue became part of Beaubassin East in 2006.
