1843-1968 with Malcolm King as an early postmaster: in 1866 Springfield was a farming community with approximately 35 families: included Springfield Creek, which in 1866 was a farming settlement with 22 families: in 1871 Springfield and the surrounding district had a population of 300: in 1904 Springfield had 1 post office, 2 stores, 1 cheese factory, 2 churches and a population of about 185.
