Description
Located on S side of the Southwest Miramichi River, 3.83 km E of Parker Ridge, on the road to Boiestown: Stanley Parish, York County: William Francis Ganong identified the Mi'kmaq name for Taxis River as Wakmutk' or "clear water": settled in 1853: in 1866 Taxis River was a farming community with approximately 10 resident families: in 1871 it had a population of 50: PO Texas River 1885-1914: in 1898 Taxis River had 1 post office and a population of 75.
