Located on the Nerepis River, 3.93 km NNW of Blagdon: Petersville Parish, Queens County: named for Major Augustus Frederick Welsford (1811-1855) who was killed 8 September 1855 at the Battle of Sevastopol during the Crimean War: PO from 1859: in 1866 Welsford was a farming community with about 50 families: in 1871 it had a population of 150: in 1898 Welsford was a station on the Canadian Pacific Railway and a settlement with 1 post office, 2 stores, 1 hotel, granite quarries, 2 churches and a population of 175.
