Since the late 19th century covered bridges have dotted the New Brunswick landscape and been the target of photographers, both resident and visitor, past and present. This virtual exhibit offers a selection of such images that have survived and made their way to the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick. Although many of the covered bridges across the province, those that still exist and those that do not, are represented here, we are always looking for bridges not in the archives' holdings. If you know where we could locate images of bridges not seen here, please let us know.
The images are searchable by county, bridge name and place name. Many bridges have more than one name and where these are known to us, we have included them.
Although the images searchable on this site are drawn from several fonds and collections, four sources predominate - Jacob Mersereau, Richard Harrington, Clifford Hodgeson, and the various un-named photographers who have worked for the provincial government over the years.
This database contains 336 images of Covered Bridges in New Brunswick. Certain restrictions apply to the use of these images. Please consult our usage policy.
