Joseph-Théophile Allard (1842-1912) was born in Carleton, Lower Canada, the son of Pierre Allard and Marie-Gilles Allain. Ordained to the priesthood in 1868, he served in a number of parishes in New Brunswick before being appointed
curé of Caraquet for the second time in 1885. In 1894, under his guidance, construction began on the
Collège du Sacré-Coeur de Caraquet. The college opened in January 1899 with 17 students. P48-33 Arthur Gallien collection, PANB.
