2012 marks the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth’s sixty years of service to the Commonwealth. To help celebrate this occasion the Provincial Archives of New Brunswick looks back at her 2002 visit to the province.
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip marked the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne with a twelve month tour throughout the Commonwealth to participate in each country’s official celebrations of the Golden Jubilee. The final stop was Canada and this leg of the tour, which had begun October 4th and wrapped up on the 15th, included stops in Iqaluit, NU; Victoria & Vancouver, BC; Winnipeg, MB; Toronto, Oakville, Hamilton, ON; New Brunswick; Ottawa and Gatineau. The Royal couple’s visit to NB began in Fredericton October 11th, departing the following day by helicopter for Sussex, Moncton, and Dieppe.
