Biographical Sketch / Administrative History
Robert Eddy (1785-1857) and Jane Morgan married in 1813 in Murragh, County Cork,
Ireland and immigrated to the Chaleur Bay near New Bandon, New Brunswick in
1824. The parents of nine children, they moved from Grindstone Cape to
Janeville in 1833 and from there to Bathurst in 1837.
Scope and Content
This fonds consists of letters written to Robert
Eddy by his relatives and a friend living in England and Ireland. Topics discussed
include religion, agriculture, immigration to New Brunswick, and political events.
His correspondents were: James Huston [Hewston], nephew of Robert Eddy, 1826-1828,
1830; Willis and Elydia Anstis, sister of Robert Eddy and her husband, 1827,
1834 (letter of 29 July 1827 is incomplete); Willis Anstis, brother-in-law of
Robert Eddy, 1838; and Isaac Draper, friend of Robert Eddy, 1830.
