The Carleton Martello Tower at 454 Whipple Street as seen from Fundy drive in Saint John. Built during the War of 1812 and completed in 1815. This is the oldest building in Saint John, and was declared a national historic site in 1924.

Likely taken from the courthouse roof. Large white building, far left, is Smith's Hall, with the Methodist Church behind it. On the corner opposite the church are Henry Sharp House and the George Frost House and Store. The Humphrey House is in the tress behind the railway station, far right. The train station and water tower stand between two lines of railway tracks.
