Old house, Pointe-à-la-Croix (Cross Point), Quebec

This house was acquired in 1824 by Robert Christie, member of parliament for lower Canada and later on in 1843 by John Fraser (1799-1893) born in Scotland and married to Ann Ferguson, the daughter of Robert Ferguson of Athol House (Atholville). It was the post office for Cross Point now Pointe-à-la-Croix, Quebec. It was located just on the point opposite Campbellton.

Figure in the picture is W. Albert Hickman, apparently official government photographer at the time. There is another Cross Point (Pointe-a-la-Croix, Quebec); formerly named Cross Point and still called that by some) which is a village across from Campbellton, on the Restigouche estuary. Cross Point, on the Restigouche, so called from a wooden cross that was erected on the site.
View looking southward across the Restigouche River. Buildings on the left are the Restigouche Salmon Club. Point of view is on the Quebec side looking toward the New Brunswick side. Matapedia Station of the Intercolonial Railway is in the foreground. Line branching off to the left was the Gaspe & Baie Chaleur Railway.
