The building was occupied by St. Thomas University as a library and woman’s residence. It is now St. Michael’s Convent for the teaching sisters of St. Michael’s Academy. The building was constructed around 1914.

This school is owned and run by the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph, who have a convent nearby. They came to Chatham, NB in June 1869. Boys and girls attended up to Grade 8, only girls attended from grade 9 through 12.

The barn is now owned by the sisters who occupy the former Bishop’s residence just in front of it. It was previously used as a carriage barn by the Bishop’s residence in Chatham, NB.

The bank seen in this photo was built by Mr. Benson (or Dr. Benson) in the 1890’s, later occupied by the Bank of Nova Scotia and until recently by the Miramichi Press Ltd. (formerly The Commercial-World).

The store was run by Albert J. Fraser from the 1890’s until the 1940’s. His daughter, Miss Kay Fraser, now runs the store. The store used to be in the smaller section of the building while a was garage in the larger part. When it was remodeled a few years ago the store was moved to the larger part.

This museum was built in the 1890’s. It was a very active organization in the first years and published its own bulletin regularly.

These university buildings were later used as a high school and elementary school while providing offices for the school district. They ceased being used as university buildings in August 1964.

This building was St. Thomas College when it was built in 1919 after the former building was lost in a fire in 1818. It was used by the University until 1964. It was later occupied by the Emergency Measures Organization.

St. Joseph’s Hospital for seniors in Chatham

This building was later used for elementary and high school classrooms. District school offices are located here as well. The building ceased to be St. Thomas University in August 1964.

This building was given to St. Thomas University by Lord Beaverbrook. This is presently owned by St. Michael’s Roman Catholic parish.
