Scope and Content

Although originally identified as “Dr. Ryan home, Norton, August 28, 1899”, this is likely the home of a Dr. James Ryan in Lakeside (Lakeside is now within the southwestern portion of Hampton.) Dr. Ryan, who died in 1934, was a dentist, allegedly from Paris who summered at this large residence. The house was known by some as "Ryan's Castle" (or Ryan Castle) and, after sitting empty for some years, was destroyed by fire in 1963.
