TILLEY, GEORGE WELLINGTON (1882-1968)

TILLEY, GEORGE WELLINGTON, Methodist minister, Boiestown circuit, 1913-17; b. Jacksonville, N.B., 26 Feb 1882, s/o Chipman Tilley and Fanny A. Alterton; m. 1913, Lulu Turner Carter, of River Philip, N.S.; d. Sherwood, P.E.I., 18 Nov 1968.

George W. Tilley was educated at Mount Allison University (BA 1906) and ordained in 1911. Before being appointed to Boiestown in 1913 he was the Methodist minister at St Martins, N.B., and when he departed four years later he went to Hillsborough. His whole ministry was based in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. His last pastorate was at Harcourt, N.B., and he retired on the Island in 1951.

Tilley was a liberal-minded man whose thinking was said to have "far outreached the thinking of the time in which he lived." His wife, Lulu T. Carter, predeceased him in 1967. He left two daughters.
