ALLAIN, WILLIAM LAZARE (1865-1930)

ALLAIN, WILLIAM LAZARE, businessman and MLA; b. Neguac 13 May 1865, s/o Lazare Allain and Marguerite Ferguson; m. 1894, Mary Jane Allain, d/o Olivier Allain, of Rivière des Caches; d. Moncton, 2 Nov 1930.

William Lazare Allain was educated locally and in Ontario. He qualified as a teacher and taught school for several years before becoming engaged as a businessman at Neguac. He served as a county councillor from Alnwick parish and as a Conservative member of the legislature for Northumberland County from 1908 to 1917. Subsequently he was employed as a storekeeper and accountant at the federal penitentiary in Dorchester. He and his wife, Mary Jane Allain, had four sons and two daughters.
