CAREW, BRUCE ELDRIDGE (1882-1953)

CAREW, BRUCE ELDRIDGE, Methodist minister, Boiestown circuit, 1923-25; b. Hunter River, P.E.I., 20 Jan 1882, s/o Edwin Carew and Jemima Hickox; m. 1922, Lulu Silliphant; d. Amherst, N.S., 24 Sep 1953.

Bruce E. Carew was admitted into the Methodist ministry on trial when he was thirty-four years of age, and he was thirty-nine when he finished his training at Mount Allison University in 1921. He was ordained the next year and had his first assignment at Cap-aux-Os, on the Gaspé coast of Quebec. In 1923, he accepted an appointment to Boiestown, where he ministered for two years. He later served in Methodist and United Church pulpits in all three Maritime provinces, and again on the Gaspé peninsula in the late 1930s. He retired in 1947 and had been residing at Amherst prior to his death there in 1953. He was survived by his wife, Lulu Silliphant, a daughter, and three sons.
