CONSTABLE, THOMAS, United Church minister, Black River and Napan 1955-60; b. Darlaston, Staffordshire, England, 26 Mar 1880, s/o John Constable and Ellen Seaman; m. 1st, 1916, Harriet Elizabeth Mayer, and 2nd, Mrs Violet Rompkey; d. Lunenburg, N.S., 27 Apr 1972.
Thomas Constable moved from Britain to Winnipeg with other members of his family in 1905 and was trained for the ministry at Wesley College, an affiliate of the University of Manitoba. Ordained in 1915, he held Methodist and United Church pastorates in Ontario, Quebec, the Maritimes, and Bermuda. He came to Black River from Musquodoboit Harbour, N.S., and during his five-year term was found to be "a very co-operative man." He was eighty years old when he resigned and retired at Bridgewater, N.S., in 1960 and ninety-two at the time of his death. There were no children born of either of his marriages.
