DONOVAN, ANNIE S. (1897-1993)

DONOVAN, ANNIE S., Sister Burns of the Religious Hospitallers of St Joseph; superior at Chatham, 1949-55; b. Renous, 25 Apr 1897, d/o Cornelius Donovan and Christina Burns; entered religious life, 1920; d. Amherstview, near Kingston, Ont., 4 Nov 1993.

Annie S. Donovan was a teacher in the commercial department of St Michael's Academy for some years and later treasurer for both the academy and the Hotel Dieu Hospital. After serving as superior at Chatham from 1949 to 1955 she was transferred to Cornwall, Ont., as head of the MacDonell Memorial Hospital. Until she entered retirement at the provincial house in Amherstview, Ont., in 1974, she continued to occupy positions of responsibility with her order in both Canada and the United States. She was ninety-six years old at the time of her death in 1993.
