HICKS, THOMAS, Methodist minister, Newcastle circuit, 1882-84; b. Manchester, England, 5 Feb 1853 (bap. 14 Mar 1853), s/o Thomas Edward Hicks and Ann Greenough; m. 1883, Rosetta A. Theal, of Shediac, N.B.; d. Saint John, 6 May 1932.

Thomas Hicks became a local Methodist preacher in England in 1872. He immigrated to New Brunswick in 1875 and was ordained in 1879. During the next forty-two years he preached in both rural and urban churches in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. He was at Shediac before being assigned to the Newcastle circuit in 1882, and when he left the Miramichi in 1884 he went to Kingsclear. During his two-year term he was an enthusiastic participant in the cricket matches which were an organized Miramichi activity of the time. After he retired in 1921 he and his wife spent two years in England. He later lived at Gagetown and Westfield, N.B. His wife, Rosetta A. Theal, survived him in 1932.
