IVES, JOHN ARCHIBALD (1863-1935)

IVES, JOHN ARCHIBALD, Methodist minister, Derby circuit, 1912-16; b. Tryon, P.E.I., 22 Oct 1863, s/o Joseph Ives and Ann Elizabeth Dickie; m. Julia H. Johnson, of Woodstock, N.B.; d. Hampton, N.B., 22 Jun 1935.

John A. Ives was educated at Prince of Wales College and taught school for a few years before studying theology at Mount Allison University. Ordained in 1897, he had pastorates in small towns and villages in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. He was stationed at Andover before being appointed to the Derby circuit in 1912, and when he left in 1916 he went to Bayfield in Westmorland County. He retired in 1925 at Hampton, where he later served as superintendent of the United Church Sunday school. He was predeceased in 1930 by his wife, Julia H. Johnson, who was a former music instructor at Mount Allison. Two sons survived him in 1935.
