JACKSON, PETER (1876-1955)

JACKSON, PETER, United Church minister, Black River, Napan, and Hardwicke, 1942-44; b. Glasgow, Scotland, 1876, s/o George Jackson; m. Ruth Geddes, of Truro, N.S.; d. Lancaster, N.B., 3 Apr 1955.

Having received his basic education in Glasgow, Scotland, Peter Jackson came to Canada at a mature age and was trained for the ministry at the Presbyterian College in Montreal. Following his ordination in 1920 he ministered for a year at Inverness, Que., and was at Hampton, N.B., from 1921 to 1924. He had a total of five United Church pastorates in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec before he was called to Black River in 1942. He was inducted in June of that year into the three-point charge of Black River, Napan, and Hardwicke. Two years later he went back to Prince Edward Island, where he served until his retirement from the ministry in 1948. He spent his later years at Hampton, N.B., until admitted to the Provincial Hospital, where he died in 1955, at age seventy-nine. His wife, Ruth Geddes, survived him.
