PARK, JOHN E. (1885-1963)

PARK, JOHN E., doctor; b. MacPherson Falls, Pictou Co., N.S., 1885, s/o Everett Park and Jessie A. McDonald; m. 1st, Jessie Gautreau, of Pictou Co., and 2nd, 1946, Adelaide Ross, of Oxford, N.S.; d. Springhill, N.S., 9 Jul 1963.

John E. Park attended Pictou Academy and received his medical training at McGill University (MD CM 1914). In 1915 he took over Dr Ferdinand L. Pedolin's former practice in Newcastle and became medical officer to the garrison at the Wireless Station. Before the year was out, however, he enlisted in the 132nd Regiment as captain and regimental surgeon based at Chatham. He went overseas with the 132nd in 1916 and served with the Canadian Medical Corps. After the war he was stationed briefly in New Glasgow, N.S., but returned to Newcastle in 1919 and remained in practice there for twelve more years.

In 1931 Park moved to Oxford, N.S., where he enjoyed a successful family practice for the rest of his professional life. He was a Mason and a member of the United Church. When he died in hospital in Springhill in 1963 he left his second wife, Adelaide Ross, a daughter, and two sons as his survivors. Another son, Ferdinand Park, died in action in World War II.
