PLOURDE, EMIL J., Catholic priest of the Basilian congregation and teacher, St Thomas College, 1916-19; b. Detroit, Mich., 2 Nov 1879, s/o Arthur Plourde and Liliosa Dumontier; ordained 1906; d. Windsor, Ont., 20 Dec 1934.
Emil J. Plourde was educated at Assumption College in Windsor, Ont., and St Michael's College in Toronto. He entered St Basil's Novitiate in 1899 and was subsequently trained for the priesthood at the congregation's seminary in Toronto. After his ordination he taught commercial subjects and supervised athletics in schools in several centers in the United States and Canada, including St Thomas College in Chatham, where he was based for three years. His last position was as spiritual director of St Basil's Novitiate.
Plourde was an outstanding athlete and one who was said to have remained youthful in spirit all his life.
