RYAN, WALTER THOMAS (1877-1939)

RYAN, WALTER THOMAS, doctor; b. Millville, York Co., N.B., 5 Sep 1877, s/o Matthew Ryan and Mary McCabe; m. 1914, Edith Blanche Quigley, of Fredericton; d. Tracadie, N.B., 16 Feb 1939.

Walter T. Ryan was educated at St Joseph's College (MA 1897) and trained in medicine at McGill University (MD CM 1901). He practiced in Fredericton and McAdam and opened an office at Doaktown in 1906. In 1913 he moved to Boiestown to fill the void created by the departure of Dr Lorenzo Chapman two years previously. He remained there until 1933, when he was appointed medical superintendent of the lazaretto at Tracadie. He died on the job at Tracadie in 1939, at age sixty-one. He was survived by his wife, Edith B. Quigley, a son, and a daughter.
