STOTHART, JAMES WILLIAM (1874-1947)

STOTHART, JAMES WILLIAM, Chatham postmaster, 1925-34; b. Chatham, 14 Feb 1874, s/o James Stothart and Mary H. Patterson; unmarried; d. Chatham 10 Feb 1947.

The son of a house carpenter, James W. Stothart took a job in the Chatham post office in the 1890s, and he spent the rest of his working life there. Appointed postmaster in 1925, he retired due to illness in 1934, after being on sick leave for a year. At the time of his death he was making his home with two cousins in Chatham.
