WEAVER, GEORGE STANLEY (1882-1946)

WEAVER, GEORGE STANLEY, Baptist minister, Whitneyville and Little Southwest, 1919-22; b. Canard, N.S., 9 Sep 1882, s/o David A. Weaver and Sarah J. Lewis; m. 1920, Jennie H. Lawrence; d. Halifax, N.S., 29 Oct 1946.

G. Stanley Weaver was trained for the ministry at the seminary of Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., while his brother-in-law Amos A. Hovey was a student there. He was ordained in 1918 at age thirty-six. He was engaged as minister at Whitneyville and Little Southwest the following year and presided over the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the North Esk (Whitneyville) church in August 1919. He was on the field for three years and three months and his marriage occurred during that period. He resigned at the end of September 1922 because he found driving from place to place to be difficult during the winter months. He suffered from poor health throughout his ministry and was extremely lame.

When Weaver left the Miramichi, he took a pastorate in Antigonish, N.S., which he retained until his ailments necessitated his retirement in 1935. The rest of his life was spent at Lower Sackville, N.S. His wife, Jennie Lawrence, predeceased him. No children were named as survivors.
