WELLS, CYRUS SAMUEL (1857-1909)

WELLS, CYRUS SAMUEL, Methodist minister, Derby circuit, 1884-86; b. Point de Bute, N.B., Mar 1857, s/o James H. Wells and Emily King; m. 1st, 1881, Louisa Jane Fulton (a d/o the Hon. Stephen Fulton), of Wallace, N.S.; and 2nd, 1899, Ethel A. Tuttle; d. Boston, Mass., 27 Jan 1909..

Cyrus S. Wells spent the last year of his probation for the Methodist ministry at Bay du Vin, as successor to Septimus E. Colwill. While stationed there, he also preached at Tabusintac. In 1881, he was ordained and appointed to Campbellton, and the Bay du Vin mission was taken over by Samuel Howard.

In 1884, Wells succeeded the Rev. Isaac N. Parker as pastor of the Derby circuit. He won the approval of the congregation, but because of illness, he resigned after only two years and went to Saint John as a supply minister. He also supplied at Sackville, N.B., from 1887 to 1892 and then withdrew from the ministry. In 1893, he and his sizable family moved to Boston. He was remarried in 1899. When the 1900 census was taken, he was working as a grocery salesman.
