FREEMAN, EDWARD HIRAM (1881-1962)

FREEMAN, EDWARD HIRAM, doctor; b. Port Medway, Queens Co., N.S., 1881, s/o Edward Hiram Freeman Sr and Anne Miles; m. Blanche Elmore Eaton, of Lower Canard, N.S.; d. Chatham, 11 Jul 1962.

The youngest of a family of eleven, Edward H. Freeman was trained in medicine at the Baltimore Medical College (MD 1907). He first practiced in the Canadian West and went overseas in World War I, seeing service in Egypt and elsewhere. He was a captain at the time of his discharge. He was a doctor at Rexton in February 1923 and moved to Chatham soon after that date. For some years he was the designated physician for part of the Micmac population of the county. He was a member of the Masonic order, the Canadian Legion, and the United Church. His wife, Blanche E. Eaton, predeceased him in 1951. When he died in 1962, at age eighty-one, he was survived by a daughter.
