HUESTIS, EDGAR ROY TRENAMAN (1886-1960)

HUESTIS, EDGAR ROY TRENAMAN, banker; b. Amherst, N.S., 1886, s/o Sydney Osborn Huestis and Lila Lewis; m. 1st, Lila Grace Bishop, and 2nd, Beatrice (Rivers) Gillett; d. Chatham, 31 Mar 1960.

E. Roy T. Huestis was descended from the Loyalist Thomas Huestis, who migrated to Nova Scotia from Westchester Co., N.Y., and both his father and grandfather were businessmen in Cumberland Co., N.S.

Huestis was a gunner with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I. He came to the Miramichi in 1930 as manager of the Chatham branch of the Bank of Montreal, after having been in charge of several other branches in the region. He continued as manager until his retirement in 1948. In the 123-year history of the Chatham branch, his eighteen-year term of office was second in length only to that of Francis E. Winslow.

Huestis played an active part in the Miramichi community while he was with the bank, and during his retirement years, which he also spent in Chatham. In the 1930s he assisted in the organization of amateur team sports, and he later served a term as president of the Miramichi Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Chatham Board of Trade, the Masonic order, and the United Church. He was survived in 1960 by a son and two daughters.
