LAURIE, GEORGE (17??-1820)

LAURIE, GEORGE, high sheriff, c1813-15; m. 1806, Lucy Bramble; d. c1820.

In 1804 George Laurie petitioned for land on the Little Southwest. A lot was later granted in his name there, but he would seem to have been a resident of Nelson parish throughout his years on the Miramichi. Sometime between 1811 and 1813 (probably in 1813) he succeeded Robert Reid as high sheriff of Northumberland County, and he held office until Richard S. Clarke was appointed in 1815.

Laurie was still living in 1819, but a notice concerning his estate was published in the fall of 1820. Four children born to him and his wife, Lucy Bramble, between 1810 and 1820, were baptized in 1822 by the Rev. Samuel Bacon.
