LODGE, DOUGLAS HARRISON, Methodist minister, Derby mission, 1879-81; b. Mapleton, Cumberland Co., N.S., 26 Dec 1847, s/o William Lodge and Mary Harriet Harrison; m. 1879, Emeline White, of Montague, P.E.I.; d. Charlottetown, 14 Jan 1900.
The son of a devout Methodist family, Douglas H. Lodge was a teacher before he entered Mount Allison College to train for the ministry. Ordained in 1878, he served mostly in rural communities in Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. He was at Montague, P.E.I., before being appointed to the Derby mission in 1879, and when he left in 1881 he returned to the Island. He retired in 1895 for health reasons and died in Charlottetown five years later, at age fifty-two. He was survived by his wife, Emeline White, two sons, and a daughter.
