MORASH, ALBERT VICTOR (1869-1941)

MORASH, ALBERT VICTOR, United Church minister, Doaktown, 1931-34; b. Lunenburg, N.S. 1 Aug 1869, s/o Charles Morash and Sophia Eisenhaur; m. 1895, Alice McDonald, of Hopewell, Pictou Co., N.S.; d. Amherst, N.S., 8 Mar 1941.

Albert V. Morash was educated at Lunenburg Academy and Dalhousie University (BA 1891) and trained for the ministry at the Presbyterian College in Halifax and at New College, Edinburgh. Ordained in 1893, he served for more than forty-one years as a Presbyterian and United Church minister in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, his last charge being at Doaktown. After his retirement in 1934 he spent a year in Fredericton and then settled in Amherst.

Morash was president of the alumni association of the Presbyterian College in 1915 and was among the most respected ministers of the church in the Maritimes. In the words of his official obituary, he had "a trained mind, a keen sense of humor, a deep love of good music, and a gracious spirit." As a preacher he combined a "spiritual appeal with an address to the intelligence and the conscience of his people." In 1935 he was awarded an honorary DD by Pine Hill Divinity Hall.

Morash was predeceased by his four children, including Lorna Morash, RN, who died while the family was stationed at Doaktown. He was survived by his wife, Alice McDonald.
