MOWATT, EDWARD EVERETT (1876-1950)

MOWATT, EDWARD EVERETT, Presbyterian minister, Red Bank and Whitneyville, 1908-11, and Loggieville, 1911-14; b. Windsor, N.S., 24 Mar 1876, s/o of the Rev. Andrew J. Mowatt, DD, and Louise J. Annand; m. 1906, Helen Shepherd Haines, of Montreal; d. Campbellton, N.B., 1 Jan 1950.

Edward E. Mowatt was educated at McGill University (BA 1904) and trained for the ministry at the Presbyterian College in Montreal. Ordained in 1905, he was pastor at Stanley, N.B., before he was called to Red Bank and Whitneyville in 1908. He was three years in the charge, and in 1911 went to Loggieville for another three years. He was later minister of the Presbyterian church at Chipman and of Presbyterian and United churches in Quebec. His last church was at New Richmond on the Gaspé coast, where he entered retirement.

When Mowatt died in hospital at Campbellton in 1950 he left his wife, Helen S. Haines, a son, and two daughters. He was depicted in his official obituary as having been a man of great bodily strength who enjoyed challenging appointments and was at all times cheerful, humorous, and hopeful.
