MCINTOSH, ANDREW (1834-1904)

MCINTOSH, ANDREW, lumber scaler; b. Lower Newcastle, 2 Dec 1834, s/o James McIntosh and Martina Lyons; m. 1859, Robina Gray, d/o Peter Gray and Margaret Brands, of Chatham; d. there, 15 Feb 1904.

As a young man, Andrew McIntosh became a lumber scaler, and he later held an appointment for many years as chief government scaler on the Miramichi. In the 1860s, in connection with this work, he and his family settled in Chatham.

In 1896 McIntosh was a member of the first Chatham Town Council, and he retained his seat until his death eight years later. In 1902 he was named to the management committee for the construction of St Michael's Cathedral. When he died in 1904, at age sixty-nine, he was survived by his wife, Robina Gray, and nine children.
