MCLOON, WALTER CHUBB (1891-1951)

MCLOON, WALTER CHUBB, Chatham postmaster, 1936-51; b. Chatham, 6 Feb 1891, s/o Samuel McLoon and Anna Christopher; m. 1922, Lily Gordon West, a native of Halifax; d. Chatham, 21 Apr 1951.

W. Chubb McLoon received his secondary education at the Chatham Grammar School and served overseas with the 26th Battalion in World War I. A popular vocalist, he was a member of a local musical ensemble which performed on the radio in 1925. He took an interest in town and Anglican church affairs, and was a "great gardener."

McLoon was still postmaster at Chatham when he died in 1951, at age sixty. He was survived by his wife, Lily G. West, who was a school trustee in Chatham for many years and regent of the Earl of Chatham chapter of the IODE. She died in 1974, survived by a daughter and a son.
