MACROBIE, WILLIAM (1820 LIVING 1861)

MACROBIE, WILLIAM, Presbyterian minister, Tabusintac and Burnt Church, 1857-60; b. Muthill, Perthshire, Scotland, bap. 10 Oct 1824, s/o John MacRobie and Mary McLean; living in 1861.

William MacRobie, who was educated at Glasgow, was the minister at Gartmore, Perthshire, Scotland, in 1856. In June 1857, he was selected by the colonial committee of the Church of Scotland to be sent to the mission of Tabusintac and Burnt Church. His appointment ended a thirteen-year vacancy in that charge dating from the Rev. John Macbean's departure in January 1844.

At Tabusintac and Burnt Church, MacRobie "conformed to the rules of itineracy and closed his labours in September 1860." During his term, he also served as a school trustee for Alnwick parish. When the 1861 census was taken, he was living in the Tabusintac area as a thirty-five-year-old farmer with an eighteen-year-old hired man. His life has not been traced further.
