SKINNER, JOHN RODERICK (1895-1981)

SKINNER, JOHN RODERICK, United Church minister, Loggieville and Millbank, 1952-64; b. Westville, Pictou Co., N.S., 21 Nov 1895, s/o Alexander Skinner and Sarah Melinda MacDonald; m. 1923, Margaret MacDonald; d. Moncton, 28 Sep 1981.

A veteran of World War I, in which he served overseas with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, John R. Skiner later attended Dalhousie University (1920-24) and was trained for the Presbyterian ministry at Robertson College in Edmonton, Alta. Ordained in 1926 to the ministry of the United Church, he had pastorates in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. During World War II he was chaplain of the forces stationed in Prince Edward Island. A period of illness preceded his being called to Loggieville in 1952. He retired in Moncton in 1964. He was survived in 1981 by his wife, Margaret MacDonald, three sons, and a daughter.
