Résumé City of Saint John, St. John County, Mariner. Intestate. On 1 December 1823 the next of kin of the deceased were cited to appear and show cause why administration of the estate should not be granted to Edward "GIBBONS." Administration granted 11 December 1823 to Edward GRIBBON, wheelwright of the Province of Lower Canada. Fellow bondsman Thomas BARLOW, merchant, of City of Saint John. Petition of Edward GRIBBON stated that George KING, Ship Master, sailed from the City of Saint John in the month of November 1821 in the brigantine "Neptune" bound on a voyage to the West Indies and has not since been heard of and presumed perished at sea. That before sailing, George KING wrote a letter (dated 3 August 1821) to his mother, Ann KING, then residing at Montreal in the Province of Lower Canada, and that he left a sum of money (£181 9s. 11d.) in the hands of Ezekiel BARLOW & Sons in Saint John. That the court will admit the letter to probate as the last will and testament and grant letters of administration to petitioner as attorney for Ann KING.
